To Get To Tobermory (by car)

Whichever route you take to the Isle of Mull, you will pass through some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland. Please remember to allow overtaking on single track roads.

Oban
Oban

From Glasgow:
take the A82 west through Dumbarton and then on past Loch Lomond to Crianlarich. Follow the signs for Oban, turning left at Tyndrum. Allow a total journey time of 3 hours from Glasgow to Oban.

From Edinburgh: take the M9 towards Stirling, then the exit marked to Crianlarich (A84). Follow this road through Callander and Lochearnhead to Crianlarich. Follow the signs for Oban, turning left at Tyndrum. Allow a total journey time of 3 hours from Edinburgh to Oban.

From Oban: you will need to arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before your departure time for Mull. Take the ferry to Craignure (45 minutes) and then drive north to Tobermory (30 minutes).

Ardgour
Ardgour

From Inverness:
take the A82 along Loch Ness to Fort William. South of Fort William turn off at Corran Ferry and take the short ferry to Ardgour - since this ferry cannot be booked, at busy times in the summer you should not travel too late in the day.

Drive towards Strontian and turn off where directed to Lochaline. Take the ferry from Lochaline to Fishnish. Drive north from Fishnish to Tobermory. Allow a total journey time of at least 4 hours from Inverness to Tobermory.

Argyll Terrace
Argyll Terrace

Entering Tobermory from the south:
go straight ahead across the first roundabout you come to, cross the bridge and immediately turn right. Follow the winding road to take you to Breadalbane Street. At the top of the steep rise, turn right onto Albert Street. Follow the road round to the left - this is Argyll Terrace. Aisling is situated four doors down, the only bare stone-fronted house. You may park on the street directly outside the cottage.

Glenborrodale Castle
Glenborrodale Castle

From Skye (Armadale):
take the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig, then drive down the A830 to Lochailort, turn off onto the A861 to go past Glenuig, then again at Salen onto the B8007 to Kilchoan. From Kilchoan take the ferry directly into Tobermory.

Turn right off the Main Street up Back Brae and follow the road, keeping left at three junctions, to reach Argyll Terrace, which overlooks the bay. Aisling is situated five doors up. Allow a total journey time of 3 hours from Armadale to Tobermory.

Ferries

See the Caledonian MacBrayne website for ferry timetables, bookings and prices or telephone: +[44] (0)8705 650 000. There are three CalMac ferry routes across to Mull, from Oban, Lochaline and Kilchoan. If you plan to take your car by ferry you should book, no matter what time of year you plan to travel. You will be given a booking reference number, and at Oban you will need to arrive at the ferry terminal at least half an hour before your departure for Mull - the same applies to your return journey.

Public Transport

Traveline Scotland provides a very good guide to bus, train and ferry connections on and off the island.
